White Sheets and Petals
White Sheets and Petals
White sheets and petals fill the once busy streets.
But, no bustling crowds, laughter or chatter.
Only an eerie emptiness.
The void is punctured by cries and sighs, and the relentless cackle of burning wood.
The heat is unsparing, the air heavy and stifling; an unfamiliar stench impregnates the air.
The lines of Unending Love drift through my mind.
A love song by Tagore, as I contemplate the city.
I seem to have loved you in numberless forms, numberless timesâ¦
In life after life, in age after ageâ¦
You become an image of what is remembered forever.
